BELIEFS, VALUES + ATTITUDES
REFLECTING ON YOUR ENVIRONMENT

EXAMINE

Watch the two brief videos below.  Each experience uses the same general materials, but how it is facilitated differs.  What do you notice about the interactions between the teacher and children?  Between the children among each other?  As you watch the video, write down a few brief notes about what values you think are inherent in the video.  Use the questions below to guide your reflection with your team.

REFLECT

Picture
  1. What changes or additions to the space or materials would help strengthen children’s engagement?  Relationships?
  2. What other materials and activities could be offered to build on previous experiences?
  3. How can I present materials to encourage deeper, more meaningful exploration?
Below you will find two videos that include commentary from Amy Kronberg, an early childhood educator with experience working with typically-developing and special-needs preschool children.  Take a listen from the “voices from the field” about her observations about the two videos, including the intentionality behind the setup, values involved in each set-up, and the benefits of the two scenarios.
